The boathouse is a jewel in the crown of Brenton Cove, the famed harbor of Newport, Rhode Island.

Harriet James originally used the top floor of the 1,600-square-foot (149-square-meter) boathouse for waterside entertaining.
Due to the close relationship between building and coastal topography, occupants and visitors enter Aloha Landing at the top floor.
The bedroom’s built-in furnishings are reminiscent of historic interiors by Captain Nathanael G. Herresmhoff.
To achieve the authentic gloss of naval architecture, as many as 10 coats of varnish were applied to cherry millwork.
