A Dog’s Life | In the sun-splashed kitchen, Homer, one of the Hewitts’ two pugs, strikes a contemplative pose. A globe lamp from Luceplan centers over the dining table, which Marcus Hewitt fashioned from a wood slab purchased at an estate sale. The molded plywood armchairs are Norman Cherner originals.

Going Up | An old ship’s mast runs through the steep stairwell. The narrow wooden treads were finished with industrial strips to help humans—and dogs—go up and down without slipping. The Hewitts like to pretend the portrait of the ship captain, which they found at a flea market, is the original owner.
Color Infusion | In the master bedroom a pink bedspread from Conran’s in London adds a playful touch. The cowhide stool is from an estate sale.
