With “beach read” a staple vacation activity, readers had a heyday of opportunities with 100 authors offering their books at East Hampton Library’s 21st annual Authors Night book signing cocktail party. Over 2000 guests jammed the tent lined with tables where each writer was seated with a stack of books and a pen ready to personalize inscriptions. Christie Brinkley, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Robert Caro, Hilaria Baldwin were among the writers autographing their books. Besides collecting inscriptions, fans could pose with authors to take selfies and engage in literary conversations. Information on makeup sessions and book binding was also offered. Plentiful hors d’oeuvres supplied by local purveyors were served along with wine and local beer.
Funds support essential programs and services at the charming Tudor-esque library—one Texan was heard exclaiming it’s “the most beautiful library in the world.” Many guests adjourned with authors to private dinners hosted by local supporters. Handsome blue-and-white striped rope-handled tote bags were provided for guests to carry home treasures purchased to enjoy curled up on rainy days or leisurely under beach umbrellas.
