Explore a $35M Greenwich Village Townhouse Transformed by StudioSC

New York City has had many historic movements and eras, with its neighborhoods holding different significance in the city’s story. Greenwich Village specifically had quite the Bohemian movement in the 20th-century, which still shines through today in the form of focus on architecture and the arts. But, while struggling artists still live there, so do the ultra-wealthy. A completely reimagined townhouse on West 12th Street could be a fit for the latter type of buyer. It just listed for a steep $35 million.

Built in 1860, the structure hadn’t been renovated much since the 1940s. But, recently, StudioSC was brought in to fix that. A major, 360-degree remodel unfolded over a period of three years. The architecture firm returned the facade to its original glory and converted the structure from a multi-family building into a luxurious single-family home.

With the property’s architectural presence and landmarked location, however, they needed approval from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission for certain changes. “Many of the most handsome Anglo-Italianate houses in New York, with entrances at street level, enhance the south side of West 12th Street,” reads a Greenwich Village Historic District Report. “Together they form one of the most distinguished examples of street architecture of the mid-Nineteenth Century.”

Crossing the brownstone’s threshold, chevron oak floors and updated living spaces greet you. All 7,373 square feet of the interiors have been curated with staging by the Interior Marketing Group. But, the outdoors impress, too. Off of the stunning kitchen, brimming with top-of-the-line L’Atelier Paris appliances and custom Breccia Capraia marble slabs, is a back garden. Despite not having the same acreage that you can find in the suburbs, the backyard offers a rare perk for NYC: A spacious outdoor kitchen.

The upper three floors hold five bedrooms, with the primary bedroom getting its own level with custom finishes around every corner. It boasts Ornare walk-in closets, Caldia Verde marble mantels, and Waterworks and Duravit fixtures in the bathroom. The rooftop terrace is the cherry on top of this revived, and pricey, Greenwich Village home.

Jeremy V. Stein and the Stein Team of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
