The front exterior of Ellsley’s Lodge
In the lodge’s original great room, a 13-foot tree is adorned with thousands of ornaments the designer has collected throughout the years. The stuffed moose atop the tree was a gift from a friend; it hides the cable that attaches the tree to a permanent hook in the ceiling.
Moose lanterns decorate the exterior of the house.
A moss bear—a year-round fixture and the lodge’s official greeter—sports a festive holiday bow.
With its red kitchen and woodsy interior, the house lends itself to Christmas.
An amaryllis provides a pop of red, and Venetian masks tucked into an evergreen garland are a whimsical touch.
The dining room table.
With its pub-style seating, the dining room table is set up for casual dinner parties.
Rebecca Ellsley’s “blonde moose” is really a caribou. Flanked by paperwhites, the designer’s favorite seasonal flower, the mantel’s woodland theme incorporates pinecones, candles and a white owl—a nod to the live ones that inhabit the nearby nature center.
In the formal living room, a simple garland of pinecones and carved trees and moose frames the fireplace.
Most of the designer’s ornaments are four- to six-inches long, and they all have faces, such as this Santa Claus.
The log stair railings in the entry exemplify the home’s rustic appeal.
Bandit, Ellsley’s Alaskan Malamute, finds a cozy spot in the master bedroom, where a pair of carved bears seem to be holding up the foot of the bed.
