We couldn’t fit it in the January issue, but this idea was too great to not tell our readers about it! In “Well Manored” (CTC&G January), the paintings in each of the girl’s rooms open up to reveal a window in between. Early on in the construction of the house, the girl’s mentioned how much fun it would be to have this opening between their rooms. The Googes didn’t want a literal window, so they made this compromise instead. Designer Anne-Marie Barton’s daughter (and Linda’s niece) Tessa, who lived with the family for four months during the renovation, was the artist who created the paintings on either side. “Tessa has always been very close to our girls, so it was only natural that she was asked to make a special painting for each Amanda and Zoe,” says Linda. On the back of the paintings, fabric, tack board and ribbon were applied so the girls could hang pictures and notes for one another too. “It is great when they have friends over,” says Linda. “They open the ‘window,’ put music in the middle and have one big party.”
