Houseware Happenings

The very latest gadgets for the home and housewares will officially preview at the national tradeshow in Chicago in March—but we don't need a crystal ball to see into future developments.

Stackable Appetizer Maker

Creating impressive layered hors d’oeuvres is a snap with Architect’s new gadget. Fit the cut and carry base down between the serrated rows and place your first layer on the bottom, gradually building up the layers. A spreader is included and a tamper to press down the dry layers. When you’ve finished the stack, cut down between the serrations and end up with bite size pieces of egg and waffle stacks, taco pizza stacks and any other layering you want to concoct on your own. $20, www.architecproducts.com

Stuffed Burger Press

Hamburger patties can be stuffed with cheese, vegetable bits and other fillings handily with this little round gadget. Place the bottom layer of hamburger into the base, flip over the plunger and hollow out a hole for the stuffing, add the top layer and use the larger side of the plunger to flatten out a patty. Make one or more and they are instantly grill-ready. $7, www.goodcook.com

Corkcicle

Store this reusable gadget in the freezer and take it out when you’re ready to drop it into a bottle of white wine.  Say goodbye to big ice buckets of ice cubes. Your room temperature wine can now be chilled for an hour. $25, www.corkcicle.com

Corn Twister

It looks like an ear of corn, but the implement has razor sharp edges, which twist down and neatly scrape off the kernels of any corn. The dishwasher-safe yellow cutting component nestles into the green “husk” for safe storage. $16, www.kuhnrikon.com/

HomePro Spill Collector

The size of a dustpan, this two-in-one gadget cleans up both dry and wet spills. The sweeping brush side flips over to a squeegee, which can help scoop up liquids. A locking system contains the mess to avoid drips on your way to the trashcan. $10, www.quickie.com
