One of the most iconic homes in the Hamptons, the shingled waterfront manse known as Kilkare has hit the market for just the second time in its 140-year history. Criminal lawyer Michael Kennedy—who represented Ivana Trump in her 1991 divorce from Donald Trump and died last year at age 78—and his wife, Eleanora, purchased the 5,000-square-foot Wainscott home in the mid-1970s and embarked on an extensive renovation. Constructed in 1879 for the family of Jonathan Edwards, a Puritan preacher and theologian, the residence has nine fireplaces, restored pine floors, and 85 windows that have views of the ocean and Georgica Pond. “It’s much closer to the beach than any zoning would allow today,” says Beate Moore of Sotheby’s International Realty, who shares the $55 million listing with the firm’s Frank Newbold as well as Ed Petrie, Julie Wolfe, and James Petrie of Compass. The property, which has been featured in such movies as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Nanny Diaries, also includes a 60-foot pool, a meditation garden complete with a yoga platform, and nearly three acres within the exclusive Georgica Association.
