For this Utah kitchen tucked within a cottage-style farmhouse, designer Jana Gough (of her eponymous Park City firm) was tasked with creating a multipurpose design for a family with young children. Among the asks were plenty of cooking and refrigerator space, ample storage and comfortable seating, but the aesthetics and execution were left to Gough’s expertise.

She opted for a neutral color palette with layered, woodsy tones: white oak cabinetry, brushed brass hardware and BlueStar appliances finished in Moss Grey for a subtle infusion of green. “My favorite part is how timeless it feels yet still retains a sense of warmth and personality,” Gough offers. “The layered textures—natural wood accents, soft finishes and subtle detailing—give it depth without feeling busy. It’s a space that feels equally elegant and comfortable, which to me is the perfect balance.”

Comfort comes in the form of an oversized island that stands in for prep and seating. A mix of open shelving and glass-front cabinetry offers both storage and showcase. At the heart of it all is the custom BlueStar 48-inch dual fuel range, paired with a plaster hood surround and quartz slab backsplash. Across the room, matching 36-inch BlueStar Pro refrigerator and freezer columns extend the earthy palette and anchor the space.

“I love that BlueStar appliances can be fully customized—from color and trim to configuration—which allows them to integrate seamlessly into a kitchen’s aesthetic,” Gough adds. “Plus, their craftsmanship and power make them a designer’s dream for serious home chefs.” Indeed, the design fuses the experience of cooking and entertaining together.

“This kitchen truly serves as the heart of the home,” Gough says. “The layout was intentionally designed to encourage connection—with a generous island for prep and conversation, and zones that make it easy for multiple people to cook or hang out comfortably.”
