Late playwright Neil Simon gave his entire life to Broadway, penning the acclaimed Barefoot in the Park and The Odd Couple, as well as the book for the beloved musical Sweet Charity. It was only fitting, therefore, that the three-time Tony-winner breathe the Broadway air to help fuel that Broadway writing. Until his passing in August, Simon and his wife occupied three apartments at the Emery Roth-designed Ritz Tower, just a fifteen minute walk from the storied stages that first hosted his works. Now on the market for prices ranging from $1.5 to $2.8 million, each property boasts its own function in this iconic writer’s life.Fittingly, the most expensive apartment of the three is also where Simon made most of his money. At $2.8 million, the 31st-floor unit served as the Pulitzer Prize-winner’s studio and office. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom with high ceilings and exposed beams, the apartment shines with prewar charm so its no wonder Simon found inspiration in the space. Modern touches include extensive custom built-ins and modernized windows, all the better for soaking up the Central Park views. On the building’s 14th floor sit the remaining two apartments. The first, where the Simons resided, is asking just under $2.6 million and includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and, again, an abundance of original period details. Anyone seeking more modern accommodations need only look a few doors down. The third unit was recently renovated, with marble countertops, enormous closets, and oversized windows, and is asking just $1.5 million.Janice Stribling of Stribling has all three listings, which were first reported by 6sqft.
