A custom metal grid by Greenscreen supports thick tangles of leafy wisteria. “It’s almost a jacket of green,” says architect Robert Young.
A custom stainless steel railing with perforated steel panels turns the entry into a work of art. The stair treads are by Liza Phillips, the sofa is from Room & Board, and the graphic pillows are by Jonathan Adler.
In the main living area, the bookcase and corrugated-cardboard wall installation behind it were both designed by Rapoport. The space displays finds from a lifetime of collecting: a set of antique French table and chairs, plus a Chinese armoire and a Swedish coffee table, both from the 1950s.
A Tucker Robbins table is surrounded by leather Holly Hunt chairs. The chandelier was designed and fabricated by Rapoport.
Windows/glazing system are Kawneer’s energy-efficient curtain wall system.
The elevator is thoughtfully appointed with a white lacquer Jonathan Adler table and a wooden Holly Hunt bench.
Designed by Manhattan landscape architect Edmund D. Hollander, the wisteria turns the home into “a big hedge in the landscape,” Young says.
A Stephane Pagani chandelier and bench designed by Rapoport fill the view from a stairwell.
Rapoport’s daughter designed her own bedroom, incorporating a white velvet daybed, a black Modani armchair and a mirrored chest of drawers into a Hollywood Regency-style space.
The large living room sofa is Poltrona Frau. A chandelier from Mis en Scene hangs over a glass Espasso table; Rapoport designed the tree sculpture in the foreground.
