An addition by architect Roger Ferris features a towering library and gallery space.
The new gallery and library are accessed via a custom-designed glass and steel spiral staircase and suspended walkways.
Another conspicuous element of the library/gallery space is a square fireplace made of soapstone with a cantilevered hearth. On the upper level, a continuous ledge atop the bookcases allows the homeowner to display his collection of notable photographs.
Ferris made subtle, but crucial changes, including the removal of extraneous interior moldings and the addition of butternut-wood walls, such as in the dining room.
The lower level includes a state-of-the-art screening room. The foyer area of the room is open to the upstairs so that it receives natural light.
The client wanted Ferris to freshen the interiors throughout the home. Ferris used the same honey-colored butternut wood but removed most of the original moldings, added curves to the walls and kept window treatments minimal.
The fresh new style continues into the central foyer.
