The great room floors are made of pre-Civil War Nova Scotia chestnut. The dining room table, commissioned by Cindy Smith of Circa Interiors in Charlotte, North Carolina, is surrounded by antique French chairs found at the Yellow Monkey and then upholstered in a white linen with nailhead trim.
On the back porch, a copper mermaid from BB Abode rests atop a glass and iron coffee table from Circa Antiques. Chairs are from Crate & Barrel; garden stool is from Dovecote.
Tankersley kept the interior trim work, such as the elegant curved railing, simple and understated.
In the great room, an early 19th-century sofa with carved lion feet is a family heirloom. The ottoman, upholstered in a circa-1850 Aubusson rug, has been with Hurwitt for years. The seascape above the fireplace is by Anne Packard through Galerie Sono.
Hurwitt used raw silk she found in India to create curtains that separate the library from the great room. The green leather chair is by Hancock & Moore.
A full-length portrait, The Visitor by Jean McLane 1907, a student of William Merritt Chase, sits in another corner of the room.
An old-fashioned larder off the kitchen has countertops of Kravet faux leather framed with nailheads. In its previous life, the ladder was used for apple picking.
In the kitchen, Tankersley upholstered the twin Sub-Zero refrigerators that flank an Aga stove with leather and added nailhead trim. Hôtel Silver servingware is through Ginger Kilbane. Faucet is from Klaffs. The copper pots were found in Paris.
Above a Duravit sink, the powder room’s mirror was handmade in France and framed by rows of mussel shells.
The Sunrise Specialty cast-iron tub in the master bathroom is through Klaffs.
Curtain panels out of a Rogers & Goffigon sheer wool separate the expansive master bedroom into sitting, sleeping and working areas. A circa-1858 French walnut vintner’s tasting table from Parc Monceau Country French Antiques sits by the window with a Donghia chaise alongside.
