White Out

White is coming on strong in design once again

Looking out of my window I am immediately reminded of the winter palace in Dr. Zhivago. Who doesn’t remember the interiors–everything was covered with mounds of snow! There is something very sculptural and graphic about all this white, so I thought it might be therapeutic to talk about some of the beautiful white products crossing my desk.

Above left: Namibia in snowflake is tanned in Italy and features a transfer pattern on calfskin that is reminiscent of snakeskin.
Above right: Palladium in gelato is a geometric pattern printed on fine calfskin from a region in France.  A special milling technique during the dyeing process enhances the grain and creates a 3D effect.
