When the owners of a charming 18th-century home in Weston sought to remodel their kitchen in tune with its original character, they turned to Nukitchens for their renowned vision and meticulous craftsmanship. A family-run business dating back to 1956, Nukitchens has a deep appreciation for each home’s story and an unwavering commitment to creating captivating spaces that suit their clients to a T.

Walking into this circa-1763 house in the woods, the Nukitchens designers immediately got a sense of the homeowners delightfully collected and sophisticated taste. Antiques and modern furnishings, a wide range of artwork, and an enchanting library full of books can all be found in their cherished abode.

The design team shares, “They have a natural ability for mixing decor and making things more current, while maintaining a cozy vintage feel. This was echoed throughout the home, so we knew it would be pivotal to foster such an environment in the kitchen as well.”

At the time, the kitchen looked out of step in comparison to the other rooms. It was functional, but not reflective of their style or way of living. So, giving this space the beauty it deserved and integrating it with the rest of the interiors was a top priority from start to finish. Another goal? Making the kitchen an inviting living area as much as a functional part of the house: A destination where the couple would want to spend time from dawn until dusk, alone or with friends.

With space at a premium and the 18th-century architecture presenting unique challenges, the expert design and build team set out to revitalize the room with timeless charm and modern convenience.

Working entirely within the historic floor plan—which included low ceilings, an in-wall radiator, and a splendid wall of windows looking out to a creek—they executed an incredible transformation that makes the kitchen and its breakfast nook feel larger and brighter than ever before. Giving the space a light, refreshing presence was important to the homeowners, which Nukitchens accomplished using the right scaling, color choices, and materials.

It’s a white kitchen at its heart, though honed natural granite countertops add warmth and dimension. The proportion of the wall cabinets and the purposeful negative space work to facilitate easy airiness. But, even the smallest details have a strategy behind them and contribute to the serene final look. For example, Nukitchens mostly chose to use frameless shaker cabinets, but glass cabinetry was purposefully installed directly across from the windows. There, they reflect natural light all day, creating subtle yet pivotal balance.

The Sub-Zero Wolf range checks two boxes: It offers chef-level functionality and serves as a visual focal point. Of course, the new island with a built-in bookcase is central to the kitchen’s bucolic elegance and coziness. As is the breakfast nook’s custom banquette surrounded by windows, which almost acts as a small sunroom. This is the perfect perch for reading or enjoying a glass of wine, all with breathtaking views of the creek, the property’s outdoor “River Bar,” and an original barn the homeowners restored in sight.

A kitchen renovation is a major investment in your happiness and your house, and Nukitchens takes their role in your home’s evolution seriously. It isn’t a space you want to remodel again in five years, so they always ensure the design and craftsmanship is enduring. For this antique gem, that included being meticulous with the updated ceiling and new flooring they installed. These fundamental elements match the rest of the home impeccably, looking like they could have been there since the 1700s.

Nukitchens thrives on crafting one-of-a-kind solutions tailored to every client and every budget. No kitchen they design is the same, each with its own personality and custom touches.
