Actor Bill Murray’s Former Snedens Landing Home Designed by Shope Reno Wharton Hits the Market

The Hudson Valley is full of dreamy homes. Many historic, some new, and some with celebrity ties. For example, A-listers like Uma Thurman and Glenn Close have been homeowners in this famously charming New York area. And, right now, if you’re in the market for a beautiful Hudson Valley haven with star power, there are options to choose from.

Earlier this year, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas put their estate in Irvington, NY up for sale. But, if you can’t afford their steep $12 million ask, perhaps Bill Murray’s former home base listed for $3.695 million is a better find. The cheerful estate in Snedens Landing spans nearly 4 acres along a private lane, making it a perfect hideaway for a famous face.

Murray built the residence in the 1980s, tapping award-winning architecture firm Shope Reno Wharton for the project. Inspired by a 19th-century vernacular, the architects crafted the 5,177-square-foot abode with historic country style in mind and were even able to incorporate elements of the property’s original structure, a quaint yellow barn. The Ghostbusters star ended up selling his custom creation in 1995, and it’s been enjoyed by many others since then. The listing states that “residents of this house have included well-known actors, a composer, and, currently, artists whose work appears in museums around the world.” So, potential buyers have big shoes to fill.

While much of the structure came to be in the last 40 years, the kitchen stands out for its special details and location. This colorful and inviting space, recently renovated for optimal beauty and functionality, occupies the footprint of the original barn. It also holds a cozy wood-burning fireplace original to the building.

In total, the property offers five bedrooms as well as a detached two-car garage with a studio above it. If that separate space gets boring, there’s even a sturdy treehouse to escape to for moments of peace or creativity.

Marjorie Galen of Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing, though this isn’t the only Snedens Landing house Murray has occupied. Last year, another property where he once lived listed as well.
