Actor Ethan Hawke’s Former Chelsea Townhouse Hits the Market

If you like seeing where the stars have lived in New York City, there’s tons of spots to check out. For example, you can tour Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s former Fifth Avenue spread or John Mayer’s one-time Nolita condo, which have both been seen on the market in the last few years. Or, explore in Chelsea. Ethan Hawke’s former townhouse just listed there and it’s a sweet find. Not only is it A-lister approved, but it boasts that classic NYC townhouse look with red brick on the exterior and understated elegance inside. Located at 353 West 21st Street, the home is asking $5.98 million.

Hawke, who has starred in films like the Before trilogy and broken out as a respected director, lived at the four-story haven from 2005-2013. The current seller purchased it from him, and even kept some of Hawke’s design influence. Most notably, the kitchen’s Facsimile retro refrigerator and painted cabinetry, which nod to Hawke’s artistic sensibilities.

The townhouse has a laid-back, subdued style that makes it feel like a place where you could read for hours, write a screenplay, or host intimate dinner parties. There are six bedrooms in total for hosting visitors, and even the opportunity to legally rent out the ground floor as a separate unit. Far from prying eyes, the primary suite occupies the entire top level and opens to a lush terrace with a retractable awning.

This isn’t the only East Coast home with character Ethan Hawke has occupied. In fact, he and his ex-wife, actress Uma Thurman, once owned a beautiful, 18th-century manor in Snedens Landing.

Alana M. Normal and Daniel J. Nassi of Brown Harris Stevens hold the celebrity-pedigreed Chelsea listing.
