Arnold Palmer’s Former La Quinta Home He Nicknamed ‘Rancho Relaxo’ Seeks $5M

The shocking events of this week have caused many to reflect on what a privilege it is to call somewhere “home” and what a hardship it is to lose or flee that. As the nation watches Los Angeles and the unpredictable wildfires overtaking neighborhoods, we are reminded not to take anything for granted. We are also reminded of California’s special place in American history. The state is known for its creative and pioneering residents, unique industries and structures, and beautiful landscapes.

Two hours from where the devastating natural disaster is unfolding sits Coachella Valley, where some Los Angeles evacuees may be finding refuge now. This property there listed earlier this week, just before the L.A. wildfires began, and was long home to legendary golfer Arnold Palmer.

The late golfer was lucky enough to have this La Quinta abode built to his liking in 1999 and enjoyed it as his “West Coast retreat” until his passing in 2016. The red-roofed, Mediterranean-style abode sits on the course at Tradition Golf Club. “Rancho Relaxo,” as Palmer called it, consists of 2,617 square feet with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one half-bath. The current owners have thoughtfully remodeled the interiors.

The legacy property is positioned to soak up its surroundings—overlooking a golf course Palmer designed himself. Palmer specifically selected this site to build his home on for its position near the clubhouse and its sweeping mountain vistas.

While it is certainly a golf-lover’s paradise, anyone would be lucky to call it home. Tamara Baron and Mike Patakas of Desert Sotheby’s International Realty hold the $5 million listing.
