Billionaire Russell Weiner just shelled out $35.3 million for a property on star-studded Star Island in Miami. Weiner—who founded energy drink brand Rockstar Energy in 2001 and sold it to PepsiCo for $3.9 billion in 2020—is in good company, as the island has at points attracted The Beckhams, Real Housewives of Miami‘ stars Lea Black and Lisa Hochstein, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, and even Jennifer Lopez. Not to mention, this specific waterfront property was formerly owned by comedian Rosie O’Donnell.
The 1.1-acre property boasts 200 feet of water frontage and there are a number of structures on the property: An eight-bedroom main residence, two guests houses, and a boat house. The main home is more than 100 years old, as it was built in 1923, and totals 11,104 square-feet. Weiner has confirmed that he plans to not only renovate, but to expand the interior living space to 15,000 square feet, as well. Swanky updates will include a spa, gym, cabana, and padel court.
Rosie O’Donnell bought the Mediterranean-style home in 1999 for just $6.75 million, according to New York Post. She later sold it in 2013 to the late Dr. David Frankel—a prominent doctor and real estate investor. The neighborhood made headlines earlier this year, when a billionaire developer sold his home, which formerly belonged to Shaquille O’Neal, for $120 million. Of course, with such high-profile residents, the private enclave is a set behind a guarded gate.
Liz Hogan of Compass represented both the buyer and the seller in this major South Florida deal.
