Broadcaster Meredith Vieira’s Graceful Penthouse at the Iconic El Dorado Hits the Market

Meredith Vieira is an esteemed name in broadcasting, having worked for a number of networks and in a myriad of formats. For ABC, she was the original moderator of “The View” and the original host of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” For NBC, she was a host on “Today,” has contributed to “Dateline NBC” and “NBC Nightly News,” and even had her own namesake show. Now, she hosts a weekday game show on Fox called “25 Words or Less.”

With such a career, it isn’t a big surprise that the TV broadcaster owns a New York City residence at quite a prestigious address. According to the New York Times, Vieira bought the El Dorado penthouse in 2014 with her late husband, fellow journalist Richard Cohen, and they intended for it to be an retirement-age pied-à-terre. Following Cohen’s death last December, Vieira has decided to sell their luxurious city home and just listed it for $12.5 million.

Situated along Central Park, The El Dorado is a legendary Art Deco-style co-op on the Upper West Side easily recognizable for its cast stone, dual towers. Built in 1930 by architect Emery Roth, it has long attracted notable figures from famous musicians and actors to authors and politicians.

For this listing, the elevator opens into a private elevator landing, which is ideal for public-facing personalities like Vieira. Inside, 2,800 square feet of refined, camera-ready interiors await. A large living room and dining room is the home’s central point for gathering, with a southwestern facing terrace off this sun-drenched space. Meanwhile, the primary suite and two other bedrooms all open to a long, north-facing terrace.

Design details include herringbone oak floors, tall ceilings, a two-sided decorative fireplace, French doors, and large windows. The apartment is equipped with a spacious kitchen and separate bar space, ideal for hosting upscale soirées.

Deborah Kern of The Corcoran Group holds the listing for those looking for a swanky, traditional apartment in New York City.
