From April 10 through 21, approximately 135 works—estimated to total between $67 to $99 million—will be on view at Sotheby’s newly opened Manhattan home at the Breuer Building. On April 22, 123 of these works will be offered in a dedicated Design Masters auction, with the remaining works to be presented in Sotheby’s marquee Modern and Contemporary Art sales in May. The collection is that of Jean and Terry de Gunzburg, the founders of beauty brand By Terry, and marking the most valuable single-owner sale in Sotheby’s centuries-old history. The de Gunzburg collection includes an iconic ensemble of sculptural mirrors by Claude Lalanne, originally created for Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s Paris apartment, estimated to be worth between $10 million to $15 million. There are also works by Mark Rothko and Pablo Picasso.
