In 2024, world-famous actress and newly-minted talk show host Drew Barrymore listed her Hamptons home. The Wall Street Journal reports that NYC-based celeb was tired of the long drive to the East End and in the mood for a getaway in Westchester County instead. Finding the right place didn’t take long. She soon discovered this charming, pre-revolutionary war-era compound in Harrison, New York on Zillow. Welcoming you with a winding creek, a pond, and multiple enchanting structures, it’s no wonder the 11.8-acre spread attracted Barrymore with ease.
The “E.T.” and “50 First Dates” star ended up paying $4.4 million for the property and dove head first into a thoughtful, hands-on renovation. While respecting the home’s history and soul, Barrymore infused it with her own style as well as luxurious, modern upgrades. Bright, quirky, and certainly delightful, the property will soon be coming to market for $4.995 million.
Set behind gates on one of South Westchester’s largest lots, the residence unfolds with a large main house, pool house, and quaint cottage. Barrymore oversaw the design of each space, from the rich kitchen to the light-filled great room with 30-foot ceilings. “It became this obsession of a canvas,” she told RUE magazine. As well as repurposing many of her own furnishings, which came from previous homes in California, she spent significant time combing through NYC’s Decoration & Design Building for fabrics and trim to make everything just right.
Whimsy appears in the form of floral wallpapers and eclectic artwork adorning rooms that feel inherently cozy. There are many idyllic spots where you can imagine curling up with a good book or sipping morning coffee, especially in front of one of the fireplaces or in the circular solarium. Emphasizing natural light was important to Barrymore, who now gets less of that (and nature) in the city.
The main house boasts four bedrooms, including the vast primary suite with its own balcony. The pool house is a dream hideaway for guests, or perhaps to use for multi-generational living. It’s offers a living room, eye-catching kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom with a soaking tub overlooking the bucolic grounds. The estate’s final bedroom is in the cottage, lofted above yet another kitchen.
After finishing her head-to-toe makeover, Barrymore used it as her weekend home but obviously hasn’t stayed long. Perhaps the project bug bit her and another remodel is on the horizon? Kori Sassower and Brian K. Lewis of Compass holds the high-profile New York listing.
