Continental Cool | In the driveway of their Water Mill home, Phyllis Briley and Rocky Boler kick back on a 1965 Lincoln Continental, one of several classic cars in his collection.
Double Feature | The chrome pedal car, modeled after the 1952–57 Ferrari F2 series of race cars, was a birthday gift to Boler. Briley’s sister, Barbara Bond, took many of the photographs that hang on the wall.
Double Feature | The light-filled living room includes a two-sided stone fireplace and doors that open to the deck and pool. The armchair, butterfly chair and glass coffee table are from Ralph Lauren Home; the cardboard dog sculpture, Rufus, was designed by Yuki Matsuoka.
Wine And Dine | Black “spaghetti”-style bar stools complement the oak center island in the couple’s kitchen.
Thrifty Business | Briley furnished her home office with an ebonized wood table from the Salvation Army and a white slipcovered sofa from Housing Works.
Music Matters | In the piano room, a paper collage portrait of Frederick Douglass adds a modern grace note; the white plaster bust is from decorator Vicente Wolf’s shop in New York City. Briley accessorized the moss balls from Homenature with branches she found on the side of the road during a morning run.
Restful Retreat | The focal point of Briley and Boler’s master bedroom is the black leather bed, flanked by night tables and lamps from Ralph Lauren Home.
Soothing Sanctuary | Briley replaced the original pink tile in the master bath with white Carrara marble. The African stool is a Hell’s Kitchen flea market find; the jute rug is from West Elm.
Machine Dreams | In the “lower concourse of engineering”, Boler built this high-performance engine for a 1949 Ford. The framed photo collage traces the restoration of a 1940 Oldsmobile from rust bucket to show car. The yellow helmet is from Boler’s racing days.
Hot Wheels | Boler also collects toy cars, many of which are displayed on a staircase.
He likes race cars; she’s partial to black-and-white photography. And somewhere the twain do meet.
