Yes, brass is still popular, but not in the same finish it was 10 years ago.

When Northeastern professionals or homeowners want to see the latest in kitchen and bath design in-person or to get guidance from industry experts, it’s a no-brainer where to go. They often head to a Torrco Design Center showroom, which are located across Connecticut and brim with inspiration from elegant faucets and sinks to statement lighting and hardware.

Torrco, a family-owned and operated company with more than 100 years of experience in the plumbing and design industry, prides itself on being part of many people’s home journeys and a trusted source for support. Whether you’re a seasoned architect looking to explore top-tier products or a homeowner seeking out Torrco’s design consultants to completely conceptualize your spaces, they make it a breeze to achieve your goals.

Working with a wide variety of clients and brands, Torrco Design Center’s women-led team also has deep knowledge of coming and going trends, how you can enhance your lifestyle most, designer preferences, and more. Lucky for you, they recently answered questions on all things kitchen and bath to pass some of this wisdom along.

What changes in a bathroom or kitchen do you think help make the most dramatic, luxurious transformation?

The most luxurious projects incorporate thoughtful details, high-quality products, and elevated design. Once you know the overall atmosphere the client desires, centering a design around a statement piece is a great way to start. It can be the freestanding tub or a gorgeous vanity. Then, layering premium materials, faucets, tile, stone, beautiful wood finishes and finishing it off with coordinating hardware, accessories, and anything to make the client’s daily experience comfortable.

People are moving away from whites and cool grays to warmer, earthier tones. Brass, bronze, and satin nickel are extremely popular. It’s not the same polished brass that went out of style 10+ years ago, but a mix of brushed and matte finishes, along with unlacquered brass that will change and patina as it ages. Also, lines are softer and more organic now, moving away from the harsh, sharp edges.

With over a century of experience, Torrco is known as the go-to resource for New England designers to find the latest lighting, plumbing, and hardware fixtures for their kitchen and bathroom projects. What can designers expect when they come into one of your six Connecticut showrooms?

Designers, builders and architects can expect to be welcomed into a showroom that was designed to provide an exceptional experience and inspire them and their clients. We want to be an extension of their business, so tailoring the experience to their needs is our focus. We display some of the highest end luxury plumbing fixtures in the industry, but can also accommodate an everyday budget. Custom vanities, countertops, hardware, and accessories round out the offerings. Bathroom and kitchen remodels are valuable for homeowners and therefore often in-demand.

Can you tell us about any exclusive lines you offer that designers can’t find anywhere else?

Samuel Heath and THG are stunning faucet lines that still carry exclusivity and are like the jewelry of a bathroom or kitchen.

Designers always want to deliver impactful, quality upgrades in these high-use spaces. At your showrooms, what have top designers been gravitating towards recently?

Wellness has evolved from a trend into an expected way of living. Creating that sanctuary in your home is a goal for many. These needs differ for everyone, and we can help to create that. For example, bidet toilet seats are becoming more common in multiple bathrooms in the home. Steam and saunas have great health benefits. Soaking in a beautiful freestanding tub before bed helps with sleep. Heated towel warmers and floors provide a cozy feel, and all of this can help decrease stress and improve your well-being daily.

Concrete tubs and countertops in all colors are fun and customizable, and seem to keep growing in popularity. Fluting on vanities, freestanding bathtubs, and countertop edging is also relatively new and adds interesting detail. Polished nickel and chrome finishes are always timeless and can complement any design style.

Your team often help designers with spatial planning and presentations for clients. What are some key spatial planning techniques you use to maximize smaller bathrooms?

Removing an alcove tub, converting it to a shower and adding a glass enclosure on multiple sides opens the space. Recessed medicine cabinets are great for providing additional storage with a minimal footprint, and you can also put integrated lighting and magnification mirrors inside the medicine cabinets. You can also make use of any eaves by adding built-in alcoves or reduce the depth of built-in closets to open up more floor space. Wall mounted vanities give the feeling of opening up the space as well.

Lastly, what advice do you have for anyone looking to redesign a bathroom or kitchen to reflect their personal taste and enhance a home’s overall luxury? Which elements are most pivotal to get right and how can Torrco help?

Don’t feel like you have to give into the trends. The best bath and kitchen remodels are ones that all the details are accounted for. Think about how your live your life, all the things you touch and use in the space every day. Then we can help you coordinate all those finishes, functions, and textures. A well-designed space just feels good when you’re in it. And, Torrco will be there to support you from the selection process to installation and construction, all the way through after sales service.
