Island getaways tend to bring to mind sunshine and frozen drinks on the beach, but why not switch it up and consider Ireland when shopping for an island home? While the location may have more rain and clouds, it makes up for that with friendly people, pastoral scenery, comfort food, and ample history to absorb. This 300-acre estate for sale in the Irish countryside of County Tipperary especially has the latter.
Woodlands, castles, and manors, oh my! Listed for €8.5 million, or $9.6 million, the property has all three and more. Its oldest structure is Killaleigh Castle, which was built in 1590 by the MacEgan Clan. While it’s mostly intact and can be restored, the aged 3,976-square-foot structure is currently unoccupied.
Even as is, it’s is an incredible piece of history to visit and explore on the grounds. Still set up similarly to how castles used to operate, there are further stone buildings behind its walls. In total, this 16th-century corner of the estate offers 11,268 square feet of interiors to preserve or reimagine.

About 200 years later in 1745, Sopwell Hall was born. Architect Francis Bindon is believed to have designed the 18th-century manor and today, this is the estate’s main house where someone can move in right away. That’s because the sellers, Michael and Sarah Ramsden, extensively restored it over their decades of ownership. A stunning example of early Georgian architecture, the imposing home spans 14,235 square feet, offering five principal reception rooms perfect for country soirées. It has four lodges nearby as well for a grand total of 10 bedrooms.
When one fancies a stroll, the property shelters natural treasures like a fine Spanish chestnut, a noted ancient beech wood, and a rare Siberian crab-apple tree. Two-thirds of the 300 acres are parkland while one-third is woodland, so there are many quiet spots to discover.
