Explore a Financier’s Custom-Built, Mallorcan-Inspired Estate in L.A. Asking $75M

Seasoned investor, financier, executive, and board member Bob Beyer has done more than just build companies up. He and his wife, Catherine, built an expansive yet warm home for their family that rivals residences all over the world. The estate in Brentwood, adorned in terracotta tiles and dotted with exotic trees, just hit the market priced asking a staggering $75 million.

The journey to custom-create this showpiece all started almost 25 years ago when the couple was looking for a large, flat site. They wanted a place to build that was on the west side of L.A., close enough to the beach and their four children’s schools. An AC Martin-designed 1940s ranch on two acres fit the bill. It had belonged to J. Watson Webb, Jr., a film editor and a Vanderbilt, for 60 years. The Beyers purchased it in 2000 and were able to acquire three adjacent properties as well, resulting in an ideal 3.5-acre space for building.

After deconstructing existing houses, they got to work on envisioning their approximately 20,000-square-foot masterpiece, now known as Ocho Manos. Bringing in architect Bob Offenhauser, the design process took two years with the build process taking an additional three.

Exquisite materials were selected to craft an aesthetic that fits seamlessly into Southern California yet harkens to villas in Spain. Authentic Mallorcan stone, for example, was excavated in Spain specifically for the project.

Bob Beyer shares, “When we suggested building a Mallorcan country house, Bob was enthusiastic, recounting how he and his wife had just returned from a Mediterranean cruise and he thought that style would blend perfectly with our lifestyle and our lush and generous site.” As for the spaces themselves, the seller recounted, “We value scale, and sought rooms of volume and verticality while still designing a comfortable and livable home for entertaining an active and growing family.”

Highlights of the majestic megamansion include an indoor-outdoor pavilion/bar overlooking an infinity-edge pool and cabana, a two-story dining room and library, a 1,200-bottle wine cellar, and gardens designed by Todd Bennitt. There are four family bedrooms and two staff bedrooms in total and, of course, perks like a full tennis court and gym.
