Few destinations in a home are as vital as the kitchen, where everyone gathers daily to cook, connect, and make memories. That’s why most people want a space that will suit them for many years, and special occasions, to come.

To achieve this, sometimes investing in a full kitchen renovation is in good order. That was the case for a family with young kids moving into an antique home in New Canaan. While the property’s charm and good bones spoke to them, the kitchen’s 1980s look didn’t connect to the character of the house and the floorplan didn’t lend itself to 21st-century living. Luckily, the accomplished designers at Connecticut-based Nukitchens were brought in to remedy that.

Known for their impressive, 360-degree kitchen transformations, Nukitchens seized the chance to give this family the lifestyle they craved. When the designers first arrived, the kitchen was cramped with dated cabinetry and had a small doorway leading to the adjacent living room. Its surrounding spaces also felt enclosed and isolated, resulting in a disjointed environment. Simply put, the layout wasn’t ideal.

Nukitchens decided to significantly enlarge the doorway to the living room, which in turn flooded the kitchen with natural light and created effortless nature views through a huge bay window. The mudroom, a drop-zone for the kids to shed their outerwear, also got a chic revamp. It has the same hardware and cabinetry as the kitchen, and plenty of room to organize and tuck away items.

Aesthetically, the designers focused on light colors and mixing metals to devise a transitional white kitchen that is a breath of fresh air. Its timeless, balanced design shines with custom Plain & Fancy inset cabinetry, honed Carrara marble, ceramic white subway tile, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and a silgranite sink.

Of course, Nukitchens also carefully selected all the right Sub-Zero Wolf appliances to fit this family and their unique needs. As the client was an expert wine importer, having a striking wine fridge to store and display bottles was a must. The client’s close friend, a designer with a penchant for decor, handpicked finishing touches like the gold pendant lights, floral orange wallpaper, and wooden bar stools.

By crafting a neutral-toned kitchen with timeless appeal and opening it to the rest of the house, Nukitchens gave their clients a sublime heart of the home rooted in longevity. Years from now, if the family ever wants to shake things up, new decor elements would be simple to implement—such as different wallcoverings or accessories—without changing the elegant essence or functionality of the space.

Offering premium, full-service remodeling from the initial design to the final installation, Nukitchens always aims to deliver exquisite kitchens that will grow with their clients through time and add value to their homes. Founded by Joseph Najmy, the family-run firm has been praised for decades for its innovative designers, incredibly high standards, and sharp attention to detail.
