Fabulous ‘Floating Farmhouse’ in the Catskills Relists for $2.35M

Dubbed “the most beautiful” destination in the Catskills by Travel + Leisure Magazine, Eldred Village’s Floating Farmhouse is eye-catching to be sure. However, it’s not just eye candy. After first listing last year for $2.875 million, it is being served up on the market once again, this time priced at $2.35 million.

The property is being offered by the same seller, designer Tom Givone, who purchased the property in 2002 and skillfully restored it. “It was really just an attempt to capture this deeply visceral first impression, my love at first sight,” Givone spoke of the renovation.

Originally built in 1820, the home gained its name from the illusion that it is floating atop the backyard pond. In total, it offers 3,400 of airy indoor living and nearly nine acres outdoors. Glass was a key component to Givone’s sophisticated remodel, adding a new depth to the property. However, keeping endearing farmhouse features front-and-center was also key. The white kitchen is made sleek with concrete floors and minimal cabinetry but stays true to its roots with highlights like an apron-front sink and rustic wood beams.

Throughout the main house, original wood-plank flooring, wainscotting, and woodwork all come together to create a cozy yet bright atmosphere. There are a total of five bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, but the primary suite is undoubtedly the dreamiest place to end a night. Nearby, an 1800s barn is another feather in the property’s cap, providing a gorgeous entertaining destination.

Chelsea McGowan and Katy Porte of the Upstate Curious Team of Compass hold the listing.
