A Financier and Interior Designer’s $60M West Village Duplex Sale Breaks Downtown Manhattan Record

New York City has long been known for its soaring heights, both literally with bold skyscrapers and in residential real estate with its towering prices. In the West Village, a record has just been set for the highest apartment sale in Downtown Manhattan. Closing for $60 million, the swanky duplex penthouse narrowly beat the previously-held record of $59 million from a sale in 2018.

Financier Harsh Padia and interior designer Purvi Padia were the sellers, so it is no surprise that the 5,800-square-foot condo is decked out in the finest and most unique finishes. A significant feat, it even sold at over double the $29.1 million that the couple originally purchased it for in 2016, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Set against the backdrop of the Hudson River, 150 Charles Street is a newer complex built in 2013. A plush palette of neutral and white tones and a blend of striking marbles and soft textures abound throughout the home. The couple also worked with Turett Collaborative architect Alex Nizhikhovskiy to make the spectacular duplex their own. Most notably, he crafted a sculpture-like curved staircase to connect both levels. It presents like a work of art, and enhances the hotel-like dreaminess Architectural Digest reported Purvi was channeling.

There are a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms in the home, all soaked in light. Further eye-catching elements include the marble countertops in the kitchen and over 3,200 square feet of outdoor terraces, perfect for entertaining amidst the twinkling city lights.

The Padias aren’t the only A-listers to have lived in the building, as Jon Bon Jovi, Ryan Seacrest, and Irina Shayk have all had units there as well, according to Realtor.com. For this major deal at 150 Charles Street, Eric Brown and Zeve Salman of Elevated at Compass represented the mystery buyer. Jim St. Andre of Compass and Peter Zaitzeff represented the well-known sellers.
