A venture capitalist is selling his Boston mansion for a whopping $29,900,000, making it the city’s most expensive single-family listing. The seller is investor Kevin Starr, according to The Wall Street Journal. Starr purchased the Commonwealth Avenue residence back in 2015 for $11.6 million, renovated it, and brought in interior designer Eric Roseff.
What awaits beyond the limestone facade of the circa-1899 Back Bay townhouse is not quite what you would expect from the quintessential New England locale steeped in history. Rather, bold interiors full of contrast and bright colors make a splash throughout the mansion.
The interior’s original detailing—such as ornate moldings, intricate woodwork, and cathedral ceilings—masterfully blend with modern statements, like high-gloss paint, graphic patterns, and contemporary artwork. With six floors (easily accessible via an elevator) and 10,000 square feet, there is certainly no shortage of space. The home boasts six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and three partial baths. A roof deck allows for fresh air and taking in the New England seasons.
Massachusetts is no stranger to pricey real estate. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy made headlines last year when he paid $42 million for a Nantucket home once featured in CTC&G, breaking the state’s record of the most expensive home sale ever. For those looking to live lavishly in Boston, William Montero of Sotheby’s International Real Estate holds the pricey listing.
