LA-Based Art Collectors List Their Groovy Aspen Retreat for Nearly $15M

With its world-class skiing and vibrant downtown speckled with high-end shopping, restaurants, and galleries, Aspen is a renowned winter destination for the rich and famous. In the town’s West End, a cool midcentury home has come to market for $14,975,000. And, while the house differs from the area’s usual rustic mountain mansions and elegant townhouses, it’s safe to say that the sellers—Los Angeles-based art collectors Dana Garman Jacobsen and James Jacobsen—have discerning eyes.

Built in 1976, the spread still has charming remnants of that groovy decade, including brightly tiled bathrooms and a green kitchen with a matching booth. Oh, and there’s a resistance pool in the main living area, so you can swim under a snow-topped skylight.

The previous owner, Joan Harris, was the philanthropist behind Aspen’s Harris Concert Hall and sold the property to the Jacobsens in 2022. They filled the spaces with colorful pieces and furnishings by Børge Mogensen and Poltrona Frau. Cultured Magazine featured the home at the end of 2025, noting that it’s one of the few 1970s homes in the neighborhood left untouched. “People don’t want you to bastardize their houses. These homes have provenance,” Jacobsen told Cultured Magazine.

The home totals 4,620 square feet with five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and one half-bath. One of the bedrooms has its own private entrance and a kitchenette—ideal for guests or even a rental. The grounds include a six-person sauna and is just a stone’s throw to downtown Aspen and skiing at Highlands.

“The light, the layout, the kitchen banquet, and the ‘kids wing’ with lofts make this home feel joyful and livable while still architecturally special,” says listing agent Melanie Muss of Douglas Elliman. It’s just waiting for a buyer who agrees to make an offer.
