While there are many world rankings from movies to music that the general public doesn’t care much about, the World Happiness Report for 2024 was just published at Oxford and people are taking note. Conducted as part of a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, this report focuses on which countries in the world have the happiest people. Spoiler alert: Disney World is not the happiest place on earth.
The key takeaways are that the U.S. and Germany dropped out of the top 20 this year as eastern European countries rose on the list. Finland reigns as the happiest country in the world, and all five Nordic countries made the top 10.
While the ripple effects of such a report aren’t guaranteed, Scandinavia’s real estate market could see a spike in interest from foreign buyers impressed by these stats and looking for a lifestyle change. If moving to the world’s happiest country appeals to you, this seaside luxury listing in Finland could be your dream home.
Asking roughly $3.2 million, the tranquil property boasts a variety of grand yet cozy rooms all looking out at blue views. It has a circa-1913 main house and a newer side house, where a two-bedroom apartment and indoor pool awaits. In it’s over 100-year-history, the waterfront estate has served as a place of business and as a B&B, but it now once again configured for residential use.
With elegant interiors and breathtaking natural surroundings, it’s easy to imagine feeling happy here. For those interested, Snellman Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
