It’s officially the NBA off-season, which means players finally have time to tend to matters off the court. For NBA All-Star Al Horford, that involves relisting his Boston area home for $14.995 million. The pro baller left the Celtics for the Golden State Warriors last year, signing a two-year, $11.9 million contract. In his next chapter now centered around the Bay, there’s no reason to hold onto a piece of Boston. After all, a cross-country commute isn’t exactly ideal.
Designed in 2022 by Cindy Stumpo of McKay Architects, the 13,200-square-foot mansion features six bedrooms and six full bathrooms. A new build like this is rare in Brookline, where the average home in that price range is estimated to be over 100 years old. Needless to say, it didn’t stay on the market long after being completed. Horford and his wife Amelia Vega, actress and former Miss Universe, paid $14.8 million for the property in 2023.
Past the massive glass front doors, a two-story foyer with a bifurcated staircase unfolds into an open-concept layout with soaring ceilings. Inside, the interiors are bright and luxurious with marble and tile finishes and light hardwood floors throughout the main level. A contemporary linear fireplace in the living room is a nice touch on top of the relatively minimalist floor plan. Of the six bedrooms, the primary suite is so superior that it gets its own private wing. It holds multiple sitting areas, a fireplace, balcony, two-story walk-in closet, and a computer-controlled steam shower and makeup counter.
The sleek manse has sat vacant since Horford left in October, according to Boston.com. “They were taking their time, like getting stuff out, because they just had a quick move,” listing agent George Sarkis told the publication. “They painted the entire house, we did some minor updates — serviced all the systems, any exterior maintenance that needed to be done.”
Outdoors, with over 1.64 acres of flat land, there is space to accommodate a future pool, sport court, or other resort-like amenities. The property sits about a half hour drive from downtown Boston, surrounded by quiet grassy lawns in the peaceful suburbs.
George Sarkis and Megan Francese of Douglas Elliman hold the listing.
