Oscar-Winning Actress Jessica Chastain Lists Her Ornate NYC Co-Op

Nestled among the modern skyscrapers that make up Manhattan’s glitzy Billionaire’s Row, a more classic apartment is seeking $7,450,000. It sits in the Osborne, a circa-1885 co-op that exudes Old-World glamour. The building’s turn-0f-the-century details (like marble, mosaics, and leaded glass) aren’t the only alluring part of this listing, but rather, the seller herself. Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain—known for her roles in The Help, Molly’s Game, Interstellar—is looking to part ways with her stunning unit four stories above the opulent lobby, which boasts Tiffany glass by Louis Comfort Tiffany himself.

A representative for Sotheby’s International Realty shared that the celeb picked up this dashing co-op in 2015, so she has been at home there for nearly 10 years. Listing agent Ellen Kapit told the Wall Street Journal that she thinks it has served as Chastain’s primary residence, though the actress travels often for work. The WSJ also reports that she is selling now because her family needs more space.

The home totals four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one partial bath. Carrier and Company, whose work is often featured in Cottages & Gardens, renovated it without disrupting period accents like carved doorways, leaded windows, and mahogany paneling. In addition to the primary suite’s luxurious bathroom, the bedroom hosts one of the home’s five wood-burning fireplaces, a soaking tub in the bedroom suite, and plenty of closet space. Down the hall, two more bedrooms share a full bathroom.

Formal living spaces—a reception room, parlor, living room, dining room, kitchen, and library/bedroom—make up the rest of the unit. With details reminiscent of the Gilded Age and Old Hollywood, it’s no wonder previous tenants of this unit include legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, singer/pianist Bobby Short, and composer Adam Guettel.

Kapit and Cathy Taub of Sotheby’s International Realty share the listing, which is right near Carnegie Hall and Central Park.
