It’s safe to say that “Shark Tank” star and founder of The Corcoran Group, Barbara Corcoran, knows a thing or two about making major deals. Recently, this was proved again when the 76-year-old’s Upper East Side penthouse sold in less than one day after listing—and for $1.5 million over asking price. It was originally on the market for $12 million and reeled in a total of $13.5 million.
Corcoran bought the 16th-floor duplex for $10 million in 2015 and she and her husband have lived here for the past decade. With no plans to sell it, the couple put $2 million worth of renovations into the apartment, which included floorplan improvements, a new kitchen, and turning a greenhouse into an indoor/outdoor dining solarium.
“It’s easy to spend money when you’re building a lifelong dream,” Corcoran told The New York Times. Corcoran first got a glimpse of the unit in the 1990s when she was working as a part-time messenger. “I thought, my God, I’ve never seen anything as beautiful in my life,” she told the Times.
The home spans 3,798 square-feet, with four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and two half-baths. Other highlights include a private elevator, original curved staircase, a landscaped terrace, and a glass solarium. The building itself is a pre-war condominium that sits on Park Avenue.
Of course, the businesswoman listed the property with The Corcoran Group (which she sold for $66 million in 2001). Scott B. Stewart, Carrie C. Chiang, and Andres Perea-Garzon represented the listing.
