Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor, and The Beatles were all the rage in the 1960s and ’70s—and one photographer made quite a name for himself taking portraits of these music icons: British-born Richard Imrie. Imrie, who is especially famous for capturing David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust era and even icons like Jane Birkin, has long enjoyed an East End property like so many artists and celebrities.
Now, he and his wife Pippa are selling their East Quogue spread and relocating to Maui, where their family-owned clothing business, Imrie Industries, is based. Harkening to the Hamptons’ agricultural roots and serving up rustic charm, it’s listed for $4.9 million.
Dubbed “Genesis Farm,” the estate has been in Imrie’s hands since the early 2000s and is comprised of twin parcels with a main farmhouse-style home and an adjacent barn. The photographer and his wife demolished an old ranch on the six-acre property and built from the ground up, using reclaimed wood from one of Pennsylvania’s Amish communities. The main residence spans 3,600 square feet, seamlessly marrying all white interiors with wide plank floors and wood beams. Every space has an airy feel, effortlessly putting you in vacation and relaxation mode.
There are four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, so family and friends can stay over all summer. It wouldn’t be a Hamptons home without a great outdoor area which includes a pool and, of course, acres of land to explore. The barn on is an ideal space for artistic pursuits, and Imrie used the open loft space as a photography studio himself.
Palmer Gaget of Douglas Elliman holds the listing.
