San Francisco Has a New Priciest Home on the Market and It’s Fabulous

An artistic hub with tons of Irish coffee spots, historic trolleys, and outdoorsy activities: San Francisco is a national treasure. However, it’s certainly an expensive place to live. And, right now, no home is as pricey on the market as this one. Beating out a gorgeous penthouse—renovated by architect Andrew Skurman and interior designer Suzanne Tucker—that listed earlier this year, this $38 million Pacific Heights pad is now the most expensive home for sale in the city.

Sitting in an especially coveted location, this home occupies the final lot of “Outer Broadway,” which is a prestigious stretch of 25 residences along Broadway Street and the Gold Coast. These are mostly homes “owned by legacy families, captains of industry, and tech entrepreneurs,” per the listing. This 10,180-square-foot marvel is no exception.

Built in 1987, it is the longtime estate of late philanthropists, Lucy and George “Fritz” Jewett. It’s mesmerizing rooms with vast windows, high ceilings, and unique shapes have entertained many important figures to be sure. Heads of state, royalty, and the city’s high society have mingled here while looking out at the home’s majestic Bay views.

Architect Sandy Walker designed the home and its curving glass on the exterior still nods to its era of origin in a most charming way. The interior spaces look modern and fresh as if they were rethought or updated throughout the decades the Jewetts lived here. There are so many unique design moments to relish in, from the grand foyer with marble flooring to the moody bar that looks straight out of a sophisticated, San Fran speakeasy.

Of course, for those who value wellness, it’s almost impossible to beat this place. Not only does the primary suite have incredible views to wake up to, but it’s standalone tub could almost make you feel like you’re floating out in the water. Meanwhile, there is also a wood-clad spa and enchanting solarium to make it feel like the quintessential California getaway.

Joseph Lucier Stacey Caen of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
