Sean Connery’s Dashing Former French Riviera Villa Asks €23.5M

While the coastal homes of New England can often exude a traditional, “old money” vibe, that’s nothing compared to the majestic villas of the South of France. Long a retreat for the rich and famous, from royalty to Hollywood stars and sometimes both (hello, Grace Kelly), the French Riviera is one of poshest places in Europe one can own a residence. So, it’s not a surprise that a James Bond star once felt right at home there.

Sean Connery, the first Bond star and the actor credited with making the franchise a hit, owned this Belle Époque-style villa near Nice during the 1970s and 1980s. At that point, he had already appeared in Goldfinger, Dr. No, and From Russia with Love and was a household name. Needless to say, his arrival didn’t go unnoticed.

“Villa Roc Fleuri is truly special”, shares listing agent Chuck McKee of Savills. “Known locally as the ‘Bond Villa’, it’s an opportunity to purchase what must be Nice’s most desirable home, just above the water’s edge on a prime, historic hillside location.”

The verdant estate wanted €30 million in 2020, but is now available again priced at €23.5 million. The circa-1930 home itself teems with historic architectural details, from mosaic inlays and intricate wood paneling to wrought iron staircases and ceiling mouldings. Gracious rooms abound, including the ultra-private primary suite, which occupies the entire top level. There are also unexpected features like a contemporary indoor pool and rooftop terrace with a BBQ station.

Of course, the panoramic water and coastline views are the residence’s biggest wow factors. Whether you’re waking up in one of the five bedrooms, hosting cocktail parties on the lawn with Bond-style martinis, or swimming outside under the sun, rich blue water is always in sight.
