What happens when 21 top design firms converge on the East End for a common cause—and a little fun, too? The third annual Holiday House Hamptons, a showhouse presented by HC&G that benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Set on 2.1 acres overlooking Mecox Bay, the 13,000-square-foot home is loaded with innovative decorating ideas and packed with surprises, including a rooftop tennis court. Click through for an exclusive look at this year’s showhouse, which is open to visitors through September 4.
The shingle-style home features both ocean and bay views.
HB Home’s Patricia Healing and Daniel Barsanti envisioned an airy living room full of texture, a space that reminds them of the beachy, laid-back vibe on Pantelleria, an island near Sicily. “You feel like you’re really away when you’re in the Hamptons,” says Barsanti, “just like you do when you’re on Pantelleria.”

“Warm, sensual, and sexy” is how West Chin describes his kitchen and living area, which feature loungy, low-slung furniture and a decidedly mod mood. Chin and his team also designed the “playful” patio that sits adjacent to the kitchen. “An outdoor space is just as important as the interior,” he says. “Good design and comfort shouldn’t stop indoors.”

Designers Anne Tarasoff and her daughters, Gail Tarasoff-Sutton and Karyn Tarasoff, fell so hard for three different blue-and-white wallpapers from Thibaut that they dreamed up a series of rooms around them. “The patterns work so beautifully because of the similar colors,” says Tarasoff-Sutton. “They really help tie the spaces together.”

The jewel-like colors of an Hermès china pattern inspired Kara Mann to create an “Indian Summer” theme in the dining room. “The beautiful ikat motif set the tone for the space,” says Mann. “The pieces are a little bohemian, with a hint of glamour, so I went for an earthy, yet elegant look.”

Cornwall, U.K., is the driving force
behind designer Scott Maddux’s scheme for the foyer and staircase, which features colors and artwork reminiscent of the seaside town. “Each space in this house is open,” says Maddux, “so we wanted to create a look that would be harmonious with its different styles.”

Eschewing stereotypes, designer Chad James chose to put a slight feminine touch on a room that’s typically thought of as a man’s domain. “The study is usually all about Dad,” says James, “but this is a nod to the lady of the house—with a pretty palette of aubergine, indigo, lilac, and cream.”

“My plan was to stop people dead in their tracks,” says interior decorator Keith Baltimore, who designed a floral Flavor Paper wall covering to amplify his “East End harvest” theme. “The hallway leading to the glass wine room is simple and narrow, so I wanted to have a ‘wow’ factor.”

Art dealer Fred Dorfman was tasked with sourcing artwork for the home’s hallways. “I wanted to showcase artists who are well known in the Hamptons, such as Alex Katz, Carroll Dunham, and Jack Ceglic,” says Dorfman, who installed Ceglic’s portraits of Hamptons residents along one of the lengthy corridors. “I wanted it to feel cohesive, and they fit perfectly.”
Melanie Roy went for a “beach glam” look in her bedroom, infusing a heady assortment of materials such as acrylic, glass, wood, and quartz. “It’s an eclectic mix—just like the summer crowd in the Hamptons, which includes everyone from surfers to celebrities,” she says. The adjoining balcony, which features sunset views of the water, is kitted out with Dedon seating pieces.

Thanks to designer Barbara Ostrom’s dramatic transformation, the only indication that this colorful man cave is actually a garage is the Porsche parked inside it. Ostrom crafted an exuberant hideout complete with a sitting area, exercise equipment, a bar, and a games table. “I wanted a not-too-serious place that would be fun for a staycation,” she says.

“It was important to choose furniture that could withstand the harsh weather elements of the East End, like salt and water,” says Room & Board leadership associate Abbie Gonzalez, who contributed to the design for this space. “But it also plays well with the area’s natural beauty.”
Decorator Jolie Korek played modern furnishings and technology against lots of lushness and texture. “I tried to create a romantic space where a couple could be comfortable together,” says Korek. “Contemporary design can sometimes feel cold if you don’t soften it around the edges.”
