Nearly 50 years ago, Studio 54—the legendary Manhattan club where Bianca Jagger rode a horse inside and Cher danced all night—was born, co-founded by entrepreneur Ian Schrager. Today, only wild stories and iconic photos of the disco destination remain, but the hotelier and real estate developer’s legacy for crafting engaging hospitality spaces has only grown. In fact, he’s even credited with creating the first boutique hotel, a major category that has become standard now, and also partnered with Marriott in recent years.
But, what of Schrager’s own personal spaces? A Westchester property that he has used as a getaway and refuge, away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, just came to the market with some answers to that question.
The 12-acre estate is set in Bedford, a friendly New York town known for its picturesque landscape and for welcoming big names like Blake Lively, Glenn Close, and Matt Damon over the years. Schrager purchased the Colonial-style, circa-1936 home in 2014 and executed renovations to freshen it that year. The result blends classic elegance and contemporary design. An all-white kitchen and neutral colors throughout exude quiet, 21st-century luxury where less is more. With muted tones, views of the rolling 11.7-acre grounds shine brightly as well.
The sprawling property also features a pool, cabana, treehouse, and a flagstone patio to enjoy in temperate seasons. For those who wish for a full countryside lifestyle, the open fields are ideal for horses, orchards, or gardens.
Sally Slater of Douglas Elliman holds Schrager’s listing, which is asking $7.5 million. As to why it’s time to move on, Slater shares, “They just don’t use it enough with all their other properties.”
