The Fairytale L.A. Home Walt Disney Created for His Family Is Available to Rent for $40K/Month

Once upon a time, back in 1932, Walt Disney dreamt up a home for his family of four. His animation studio was on the rise and he had a vision for this Los Angeles residence, which has nods to some of the castles featured in his on-screen fairytales. Although the Disney family moved out in 1950, the property’s story doesn’t end there. It is now available for rent for $40,000 per month.

“This property was chosen by Walt Disney as the place to raise his family, and also coincided with a transition of Disney Studios from fledgling enterprise toward entertainment giant,” says listing agent Chase Campen of Compass. “It sits on an acre of land with incredible outdoor space and city views. Its historical pedigree only adds to the magical mystique.”

Enchanting as one would expect, the ivy-covered residence spans 6,388 square feet and totals four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half-baths. Full of character, the structures touches on various architectural styles, such as French Provincial, French Country Tudor, and Neo-Gothic. Besides the swimming pool that overlooks L.A., it is fair to say Disney did what he does best: Made anyone who comes here feel far, far away.

It is believed that while at the property, Disney found inspiration for characters like Snow White, Mary Poppins, and Winnie the Pooh. The home theater where Disney would watch his productions is even still intact today with modern updates.

The current owner is Kazakhstan-born film director Timur Bekmambetov. He bought the Los Feliz property in 2011 and has since been inspired to produce a graphic novel and movie script about fictional Disney characters who never made it to the big screen. Perhaps the home’s next tenant can harness some of the property’s magic as well.
