This Modern Beach Compound Is Now the Most Expensive Home Ever Sold in San Diego County

Everyone knows San Diego is an expensive city to call home, but have you ever wondered where the record stands for San Diego County’s priciest residential sale? This recent sale is bringing attention to that. A modern compound right on the beach in coveted Del Mar now holds that title, costing its ultra-affluent buyer around $50 million—$49,999,999, to be exact.

Why so expensive? Well, t0 start the lot is literally just steps from the sand and ocean. In fact, the rare property has remained undeveloped for nearly a century and has only recently been completed after 12 years of planning, approvals, and construction. Clearly, this painstaking work paid off considering the monumental nature of the deal.

Architect William Hefner designed the 6,000-square-foot home, while Jeffry Weisman and Bryn Brugioni of San Francisco-based Fisher, Weisman, Brugioni devised the clean-lined, California-cool interiors. The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom residence also includes two guest houses and plenty of oceanfront, outdoor living spaces. An interior courtyard houses the swimming pool, hot tub, ping pong pavilion, and al fresco dining area. Out back, between the interiors and the beach, there is 75-foot deck with a fire pit perfect for swanky, SoCal society parties.

Rande Turner of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty represented the listing. Reflecting, he shared: “This sale authenticates the deep value for San Diego’s unique coastal real estate while positioning Del Mar’s white sandy beach as the crown jewel.”
