Just over the New York – Connecticut border sits the cozy little village of Pound Ridge, a charming town with many beautiful homes. The modernist movement made its way to historic Pound Ridge in the 1970s, according to Modern in Pound Ridge by the Pound Ridge Historical Association. This residence followed just behind, coming to life in 1980, and is now on the market for $7.5 million.
Many famous figures have called the small towns across the Connecticut border home, but particularly those in creative fields have flocked to Pound Ridge. Mitchell Cannold, a producer for ‘Dirty Dancing’ asked $5.98 million for his modern home back in 2022, and the home of the late William Rubin, curator for the MoMA, listed back in 2021.
The open and glassy atmosphere that modern homes are known for is in full force here, with a nice touch of mountain house-like warmth, too. There are A-frame ceilings in many of the rooms. The fireplace in the living room is truly a show-stopper, outfitted in marble and cascading all the way up to the ceiling. Accented by wood beams and tiled floors, the sophistication moves into the sleek black marble kitchen and dining room featuring custom millwork. While the majority of the spaces sit on the first level, including a dreamy primary retreat, two additional bedrooms and a kitchenette can be found on the lower level.
Even though the weather might be turning, this place looks like it could be a winter spa getaway akin to five-star hotels in Colorado or Utah. On one end of the home sits a total wellness retreat, complete with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, and an open space for fitness. Swimming inside and watching for wildlife outside, what could be more relaxing?
