Late Collector Chara Schreyer’s Masterpiece of a Home Dubbed ‘Art House’ Asks $8.3M

Collecting art for close to 50 years into a prolific body of six hundred works, Chara Schreyer was known for her keen eye and brought her legendary skills to her residences as well. After passing away in February, the art expert’s homes have started to come to market. Her San Francisco high-rise pied-à-terre listed at the end of June for $4.9 million, and now her Tiburon home across the Bay is asking $8.277 million.

Fostering a close relationship with designer Gary Hutton, Schreyer created five residences over the years to house her collections. This Marin County spot has a bit of an industrial feel from the outside, while large windows and wood accents ensure it stays airy and welcoming. It is no surprise that the 8,170-square-foot home was able to host several shows and fundraisers, effortlessly exuding Bay Area glamour with magnificent views of Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Belvedere Peninsula.

“When I first walked into the home I was overwhelmed by the unique architecture, space, views, and grounds,” says listing agent Shana Rohde-Lynch. “Every space is enhanced by a piece of art from the legendary art collector Chara Schreyer.” A graphic, playful detail included by Schreyer is half a pair of large eyeglasses on the exterior, with the other half located at her L.A. home.

Boasting six bedrooms, the home can accommodate plenty of guests. The primary suite is a work of art in and of itself. Complete with a large walk-in closet, a spectacular en-suite, and its own terrace, relaxation is a guarantee. Some of the home’s other amenities include a wood-paneled library, a rec and media room, a fitness center, and even an elevator.
