Back in the early 20th century, the field was wide open for innovators in the burgeoning film industry. In 1916, shortly after producing 0ne of the first full-length feature films made in Hollywood, a Polish-born trailblazer set his roots firmly in the area.

Samuel Goldwyn, one of the principal founders of MGM, built this home in 1916 and its rich legacy is still palpable thanks to the timeless architecture and theatrical pool in the backyard. Those with a passion for Hollywood history or architecture may find it tempting now that its asking a cool $3.495 million.

Goldwyn’s work in the film industry reached far before the founding of MGM, and the late cinephile made a long-lasting impact. He is widely considered one of the most important producers and Hollywood moguls of all time. Adding to the Runyon Canyon property’s allure, Goldwyn moved into his home shortly before the creation of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924. Perhaps some of his Hollywood magic will rub off on new owners even 100 years later.

Arriving at 1757 N Gardner Street, there is an enchanting feel that pervades from the home’s ivy-covered entry through the airy interiors. Shining with original stained glass work and rich oak floors, the 3,400-square-foot home has good bones that were enhanced by a 2021 renovation. As you walk through, it’s fun to picture the liveliness the place might have seen in the Roaring 20s. The public spaces may have once been the scenes of get-togethers from Goldwyn’s movies or MGM founders. Meanwhile, the four bedrooms and three bedrooms function as relaxing sanctuaries.
