Along with the paintings, pictures, prints, videos, sculptures on view at Art Basel shows, a big role is played by interior design, furnishings, home accessories. Just across the street from the main show at the Convention Center, the Design Miami fair, the “Global Forum for Design,” attracts viewers interested in cutting edge creations. This year’s curatorial theme, Where We Stand, spotlighted the role design plays both in reflecting and responding to the world around us, celebrating objects inspired by place, identity, heritage and the beauty and power drawn from intimate, rooted connections.
Across town the shops and showrooms of the Miami Design District—indoors and out—presented a whole calendar of “Art Takes Form” programs, special exhibitions, and events.
