Bonds Cay, which is is not named after James Bond though it would be worthy of the suave spy, is a stunning undeveloped private island in the Bahamas just north of Nassau. Spanning 650 acres, the slender paradise just listed for $30 million with the potential to be an exciting commercial or residential investment.
In fact, the island was previously purchased for $16 million in 2006 by a group of high-profile investors, including Shakira and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, with plans to develop the land into an artist’s retreat complete with luxury hotels and homes. Those ideas never came to fruition and according to Mansion Global, there’s no record of the group ever selling the property, but details around who currently owns the island remain unclear. Today, the property is set up some “glamping” bungalows and a beachfront bar, leaving the rest of the island a blank canvas.
“It’s incredibly rare to find an island of this size that remains entirely pristine,” listing agent, Gavin Christie, shares. “Whether it be a world‐class resort, an exclusive residential enclave, or an ultra‐private family retreat, the scale of the island allows for extraordinary vision without compromising its natural beauty.”
Located 37 miles from Nassau and 155 miles from Fort Lauderdale, it’s remote without feeling like you’re stranded. It boasts five beaches and three salt pond lakes, providing equal opportunities for those who like to lounge or explore. The surrounding waters are bordered by the Tongue of the Ocean, a deep trench blossoming with sea life, while a neighboring cay, known as the “Billfish Capital of the Bahamas,” is filled with all kinds of popular sports fish. Enthusiastic preservationists will also love a unique aspect of the Bonds Cay ecosystem. There’s a species of land snail found only on the island that was discovered in 1921.
Since the latest vision for the island never came to be, things are wide-open for the next buyer to get creative. The island is accessible exclusively by boat, seaplane, or helicopter and Gavin Christie, owner of Corcoran CA Christie Bahamas, represents the listing.
