Victoria Hagan is born in New York City and raised in Pocantico Hills, New York. She grows up frequenting fabric stores with her mother, a fashion illustrator.
Visits Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello with her family. “I remember being taken with the architecture,” Hagan says. “It really inspired me.”
Attends Parsons School of Design, where she meets interior designer Simone Feldman through a mentoring program. While in school, she lands her first big project: the renovation of a historic West Side apartment. “I don’t know that I knew what I was doing, but I figured it out.”
1985
Launches Feldman-Hagan Interiors with Feldman. “We had great synergy. She taught me to be open-minded, and that it’s okay to think a little differently, which gave me great confidence in finding my own design voice.”
Feldman-Hagan Interiors designs a salon at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. A year later, after Feldman’s death, Hagan opens Victoria Hagan Interiors. “I quickly learned that completing a project takes a village. You need to know who you can rely on.”
Marries media investor Michael Berman, with whom she later has twin boys, Alex and Harry.
“The birth of my sons is my proudest accomplishment.”
Introduces VH Collections, a line of furniture and textiles. “I saw a void in the market for classic furniture that mixes well with other styles.”
Designs Number One Observatory Circle, the official residence of the vice president, for Joseph Biden.
Publishes Victoria Hagan: Interior Portraits (Rizzoli).
erves as president of the Decorators Club, a women’s organization that promotes education and awards scholarships to interior design students. “It’s nice to help young designers learn about the field.”
Participates in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House for the second time. “I like to think that design is my sport. I work hard at it, and I always want to be on my game.”
