Considered one of the greatest composers in the history of film, Henry Mancini has a long list of talents and accolades. The late composer, conductor, arranger, pianist, and flutist earned four Academy Awards, 20 Grammys, and a Golden Globe for his impactful work. With such success, the great music mind was also able to secure a fabulous Malibu getaway and relish decades of leisure here. Purchasing this home for $147,500 in 1972, according to Mansion Global, it is now listed for the first time since then asking $12.995 million.
It’s tough to imagine many classic Hollywood films without Mancini’s knack for tones. He famously composed ‘Moon River’ for Audrey Hepburn to sing in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) and the iconic The Pink Panther theme song (1963). Passing away in 1994, it’s the Mancini Family Trust that now looks to sell the 1958-built beach house.
Together, his daughters Monica and Felice Mancini share that their father “bought this Malibu hideaway at the height of his career, drawing inspiration from the stunning sunsets, enjoying family gatherings, and hosting extraordinary parties with talented friends and musicians.” It’s easy to imagine boisterous get-togethers with friends on the oceanfront deck or evenings making music around the living room’s gas fireplace. There’s also a fire pit within the ultra-private courtyard at the front entrance, landscaped beautifully for a magical, hidden feel.
With four bedrooms, including an airy primary suite with vaulted ceilings, it’s an ideal size for welcoming weekend visitors. Once guests see the majestic vistas from Point Dume to the Malibu Pier to Queen’s Necklace, they may never want to leave.
