The firm created a spacious Upper East Side duplex by combining four apartments and giving the new abode loads of personality. A partition wall hides the kitchen from the dining area while simultaneously concealing structural columns, and a graffiti installation in the gym features the client’s favorite sports and inspirational quotations. “This project is so sophisticated,” declares judge Lori Weitzner, “and the open plan is great for entertaining.”

A chair swing suspended from the ceiling in the open-plan living area keeps things casual and family-friendly.

For an Old Westbury master bath, Mojo Stumer Associates created a spa-like, indoor-outdoor oasis by integrating slatted mahogany screens that both provide privacy and filter light from an adjacent terrace.

Fittingly enough, a freestanding glass tub—its filler is concealed in the ceiling—sits on a bed of river stones. “The relationship to nature gives the room a very peaceful vibe,” says judge Lori Weitzner. “It’s a great bathroom to ‘Zen out’ in,” concurs judge Analisse Taft-Gersten.

When you’re crafting a Greenwich Village terrace for a famous fashion designer, the space needs to be functional and chic. To that end, interior designer Glenn Gissler and landscape designer Billie Cohen dreamed up a multi-tiered refuge.

It features designated areas for dining, sunbathing, and lounging in the shade of a wisteria-covered arbor.

“It’s not easy to create an oasis in Manhattan,” comments judge Lori Weitzner. “I’d be out enjoying it all the time!”

Scarsdale-based interior designer Claire Paquin reinvigorated an outdated Bronxville kitchen with bold blue cabinetry, quartzite countertops, and a classic subway-tile backsplash. In lieu of upper cabinets, custom floating walnut shelves contain glassware and dishes, while brass accents complete “an elegant mix,” says Papachristidis. “Gorgeous—even down to the hood!” exclaims judge Analisse Taft-Gersten.

Westchester empty nesters asked Studio Dearborn’s Sarah Robertson and ND Interiors’ Nancy Davilman for a dose of clean, contemporary glam. They opened up the apartment’s 275-square-foot kitchen to let in more light, then added further panache with high-gloss cabinetry, polished chrome accents, and a textured Phillip Jeffries wall covering. “I love the built-in hutch,” raves Taft-Gersten. “What a beautiful and elegant space.”

Sag Harbor–based decorator Tamara Magel conjured a sophisticated aerie within a turn-of-the-20th-century Tribeca warehouse that was recently converted into condominiums by BKSK Architects. The restrained palette, natural materials such as marble and wood, and plenty of highly textured fabrics make “the apartment seem luxe, but the layered, nuanced shades lend a beautiful dimension,” says judge Lori Weitzner. “One can feel at ease here.”

A sloping, rocky property in Rye proved challenging for Sean Jancski Landscape Architects, who endeavored to maintain the site’s character while incorporating a raised infinity-edge pool and terrace, providing the illusion of water extending into the woodland beyond.

The clients’ love of all things Parisian inspired this Upper East Side bathroom’s black-and-white scheme. Its petite size didn’t stop Virginia Toledo and Jessica Geller from going all out with a graphic mosaic floor, Nero Marquina marble crown moldings, and a custom vanity with oversize half-moon pulls. Judge Harry Heissmann describes it as “modern, but with Art Deco references. It’s very New York.”
